O Leite das Monarcas [The Milk of The Monarchs] is an experimental documentary built from Super 8 and digital images, family memory and myth. A little boy hears a secret whispered through the weeds and begins to search for its meaning. Around him, seemingly still images come to life, revealing a story that has never been recorded: the forbidden hunger of a monarch. Connected to Francisco Nuno Rodrigues’s research on the family archive, the film approaches buried trauma, memory and metamorphosis through a fragmentary and intimate visual language
